Construction of the PGE Baltica operations and maintenance base in Ustka is progressing according to schedule. The most difficult and time-consuming preparatory activities are nearing completion, and the first elements of the future port facilities are becoming increasingly visible alongside the quay undergoing reconstruction. KB DORACO is carrying out the project for the PGE Group.

With each passing week, it becomes increasingly clear how modern infrastructure for the offshore wind industry is taking shape where an old fish processing plant operated in the past. The Ustka base will be the first facility of its kind in the PGE Group. Operating continuously and overseeing the efficient operation of turbines in the Baltic Sea, it will form the heart of the entire offshore wind farm system. The first offshore wind farm operated from Ustka will be Baltica 2 – a joint-venture of PGE and Ørsted. The modern port facilities are scheduled for commissioning in the Q4 of 2026.

"The operation of the O&M facility in Ustka promises to transform this particular port into a thriving, modern hub focused on offshore wind energy support services. Local businesses, not only from Ustka but also from across Pomerania, can only benefit from this by offering services essential to its daily operations," emphasizes Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica. "Our Ustka project is a prime example of the commitment of Polish industry and Polish companies. From the outset, this investment was entrusted exclusively to Polish entities."

At the construction site in the Ustka port, the general contractor has completed the demolition of the old quay. The first foundation elements of the new structure have already appeared in place of the worn-out infrastructure. KB DORACO is continuing earthworks and further technological work on the emerging quay.

"We are pleased to be implementing this investment in Ustka which is strategic for the entire Polish seacoast. We are pleased that at every stage of the project we can collaborate with local companies and utilize local services, because this translates into real support for the local economy,” says Radosław Jarosiewicz, Vice President of the Management Board of KB DORACO. “Today, we are leveraging our knowledge and experience to ensure that Ustka soon becomes a key location in the Polish offshore sector on the Baltic Sea.”

Onshore, the geotechnical work is nearing completion, consisting of soil reinforcement, including the installation of foundation piles. A tower crane has arrived at the construction site to support further work. Foundation work is underway, with base concrete being poured and reinforcement being installed. New steel deliveries are regularly arriving at the project site. The first structural concrete for the new buildings is scheduled to be poured in September – first for the warehouse section, then for the staff and office areas.

Work is also underway on the sanitary and storm sewer systems. Work on the electrical installations and power systems will begin soon. Specialized work is also planned on the quay construction using micropiles. Intensive design work is also underway, allowing for a smooth transition to the next stages of construction.

The O&M base for offshore wind farms is being built on an area of over 2.3 hectares. It will consist of an administration and staff building, a warehouse building, a maneuvering area, and a quay where special fast service vessels (CTVs) will be moored to transport crews and spare parts to the wind farms in the Baltic Sea.

Besides its future operations and service function, the Ustka base will serve as a support base during the offshore construction of the Baltica 2 wind farm. Workers supporting the construction process will depart from Ustka.
