Construction of PGE Baltica base in Ustka has been launched

Symbolicznym wbiciem łopaty oficjalnie rozpoczęły się prace budowlane przy bazie operacyjno-serwisowej w Ustce. Planowane oddanie do użytku nowoczesnych obiektów portowych to IV kwartał 2026 roku. Pierwszą morską farmą wiatrową obsługiwaną z Ustki będzie Baltica 2 – wspólny projekt PGE i Ørsted.
On Tuesday, June 3 this year, representatives of the investor – PGE Group, PGE's partner in the Baltica 2 project – Ørsted, the EPC contractor – Korporacja Budowlana DORACO and the contract engineer – Sweco Polska, as well as government representatives, local government officials and special guests attended the ceremonial commencement of construction works at the PGE Baltica base construction site in the center of the Ustka port.
The operations and maintenance base, the construction of which has just begun in Ustka, will play an important role in the modern energy industry currently being developed by the PGE Group, a key element of which are offshore wind farms such as Baltica 2. This project will ensure the efficient operation of farms in the Baltic Sea and change the function and role of the port in Ustka, providing new jobs and creating a new permanent functionality, said Przemysław Jastrzębski, PGE Vice-President of the Management Board for Finance.
I am convinced that our project, thanks to the system of local suppliers and cooperating parties, will also be a developmental boost for the entire Pomeranian region, added Jastrzębski.
Until now, Ustka has been mainly associated in Poland as a holiday destination. Thanks to the project and ultimately operation of the wind farm base, the city will also begin to function outside the summer season, becoming an important point on the map of the Polish wind energy industry and an attractive workplace for experts in the sector.
The Ustka base will be the operational heart of our offshore wind projects. Service and logistics activities for the Baltica 2 farm will be coordinated here, as will those for other offshore wind farms in the project in the future. This is where we will carry out ongoing monitoring, scheduled maintenance and servicing of the wind turbines in the Baltic Sea, explained Bartosz Fedurek, President of PGE Baltica Management Board. The Ustka base is an excellent example of Polish industry's commitment to offshore wind projects. From the outset until now, over 30 entities have been involved in the project – all national ones. And, given the construction process and the long-term operation of such facilities, we can anticipate an even greater involvement of Pomeranian companies in the entire supply chain, he stressed.
The official commencement of construction marks an important moment in the timeline of works planned for the coming months.
The wind is already blowing in our sails, and now we're just picking up speed. Today we are ceremonially launching the construction and enthusiastically entering the implementation process. It is indeed with great satisfaction that we are involved in Poland's key offshore project in the Baltic Sea. The cooperation with PGE Baltica is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of the knowledge and experience of the DORACO team in the construction and modernization of complex hydraulic structures. Our work will lay the foundation for the further development of the offshore sector in Poland and contribute to the process of energy transformation in our country, said Radosław Jarosiewicz, Vice-President of the DORACO Korporacja Budowlana Management Board. What's more, as a Polish company, we are gaining additional experience that we will be able to use in Poland's development activities, and by working with Polish companies as partners or subcontractors, we are supporting the development of domestic local content, which from a broader perspective is an impressive result. We are very proud of this, he added.
The operations and maintenance (O&M) base will be built on an area of more than 2.3 hectares on the site where the “Korab” fish processing plant operated years ago. It will consist of an administration and staff building, a storage building, a maneuvering area and a quayside where special high-speed service vessels for transporting crews to the offshore wind farm area (so-called CTV – crew transfer vessel) will dock. Internal parking is also planned. Green areas with a total area of about 5,500 square meters will be created around the base buildings. Completion of construction works is scheduled for Q4 2026.
The first wind farm to be served from PGE's Ustka base will be the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, which PGE is building in the Baltic Sea together with the Danish company Ørsted. It is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. In addition to its future service function, the Ustka base will serve as a base during the construction of this offshore farm.
Teams of workers supporting the construction process will depart from Ustka.
